Disabilities
Provides self-advocacy skills for members and promotion of advocacy outcomes; offers consultative opportunities for those who work with or support people who have disabilities and are from ethnic backgrounds; enhances participation and
representation by people who are from ethnic backgrounds and living in Victoria; engages with policy makers in the ethnic
and disability sectors; and provides consumer representation at local, regional and national forums. Community languages
are spoken.
Disability Abuse & Neglect Hotline
A referral service that takes reports about people who are using any disability service funded by the Commonwealth or state or territory governments and who may have had their legal or moral rights transgressed though abuse or neglect. Reports are forwarded to appropriate government agencies for investigation. Callers are also referred to other potential avenues of assistance such as complaints resolution agencies and advocacy organisations. Reports can be made by people with disabilities and by their families or carers, by advocates, services staff and health & other professionals. Anonymous reports are accepted and the privacy of people making reports is closely guarded. Advocacy can be arranged for callers with disabilities who require help to make a report.
