Better Start for Children with Disability program
Provides services of intervention therapies and treatments for children with disabilities, who are blind or have low vision.
Children with vision of less than or equal to 6/18 or equivalent field, in the better eye with correction, are eligible for the
program. Programs focus on development of independence in different areas, including starting school, early literacy, social skills, physical development and acquisition and use of equipment. Vision Australia staff work with families to develop an integrated service plan that successfully combine Better Start programs with other available Vision Australia services. Families need to register their child with Carers Australia by contacting 1800 242 636 in order to access this program.
